Today I read the reviews of My Wiki for the class and implemented the changes that had been suggested. I needed to post my timeline to this blog because not everyone could open it from the timeline site.
With the exception of one or two more rereads of the Curriculum Project prior to final posting, I think I am about done with coursework for EDUC 553.

A snowy afternoon
We did not go to Grand Island yesterday due to possible weather conditions, so I decided to work on class assignments. I managed to lock myself out of the class Wiki site by pushing an incorrect button and now I am waiting for Jackie to let me back into it. I am working on using the Timeline tool that I selected, but do not want to do to much to it at this point.
It is still snowing at about 1315 and I will probably wait to do the sidewalks and driveway until 1600 or so.

Daytona 500 Sunday
Took yesterday off from working on class stuff. I cannot get into the week 6 assignment yet, had to wait for access to the Wiki site. Requested that this morning before going to church.
Friday my brother in law and I took our wives out for supper and then to the Home and Gardens show in Lincoln. We do this every year. The ladies birthdays are the previous week and Valentine's is today so it all kind of works out to their benefit.
I have watched some of the video's that were recommended prior to starting your first Wiki experience and found them interesting. The thing I am wondering about is if our IT folks would allow our office staff to have a Wiki just to share information among ourselves. Knowing our IT folks, it will probably be a "security issue" it usually is.
I am going to head back to the blackboard site to see if I can get on to the next step.
Later
Did not get on to the Wiki Site until Monday. It was a holiday for State Employees, so I had the day off. My wife and oldest daughter went shopping in Lincoln so I had the place to myself.
Spent the morning looking at a variety of tools from the Site and decided on one that said it would convert PDFs which I use a lot of at work and know that teachers in the local system reference and copy them a lot, so it sounded like a great tool to use. There are a number of them available. Goofed around looking at several, one that really looked attractive had some pretty poor reviews on the internet, but I tried it any way. It took over one hour of uploading time for a 1 page document. I decided that I could re type or dictate faster than that.
Decided to change gears and went with a program to do time lines with. It looks very appropriate for a world history class. Did not see any adult only signs, which I did see on the French site that I was looking at for converting documents to Word.
I have to go back to work tonight to do some investigative interviews and need to be back there by 5 in the morning to do more.
Closing for now. Hope the rest of the class has more time to work on academic subjects this week than I do. I do not have the heart to tell the grand kids that they can't go with grandpa to Grand Island this weekend. May be I should take a class in scheduling.

Super Bowl Sunday afternoon
I had some time on my hands, so I finished the Calendar for the Unit, and placed it on the website.
Here is the site if anyone is looking for something to do.
http://assignaday.4teachers.org/teachers/AssignmentManager.php?calendar_id=256346
The Calendar site is pretty basic, but it will give students a heads up about what is going to occur on a given day. It will need edited with names of students when it comes time to do the presentations.

Lorin's Presentation
I had put a lot of work into the presentation in Power Point. I played around with Prezi, but it did not seem to meet my needs, or I am very linear and did not like the format. My wife and children would say that I am "ridgid" and do not like to change.
I placed the PPT into Google docs and it is there for any one to look at who has the address.
This is Super Bowl Sunday and I do not want to stay in front of the computer all day.
The grandkids from Grand Island could not come because of the weather, but may come back next weekend for a Nebraska basketball game.

lesson plan response
I've been working on class stuff today. Wrote a response to a lesson plan and sent it in, tried to copy it here to the blog and ran into all kinds of messages why I could not post it. Tried saving my document as text only and got the same response.

Lorin attempting to blog
I developed my first rubric today. It is located at http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php?screen=ShowRubric&module=Rubistar&rubric_id=1857149&
I will be adding a hyperlink to the blog site and to the curriculum site for this item.
I am going to work an alternate schedule for a few days to try to get ahead on the assignments for the class. My grandkids from Grand Island will be here this weekend and I do not intend to be locked up in this office. Grandma is turning 61 and needs a birthday party with the grandkids.

EDUC 553
I have placed the address for my website which contains my curriculum project at the top of the page. I clicked it to make sure it works. Amazing what happens when you follow all of the directions.
I enjoyed myself clicking on various blogs this morning. I am taking a day of vacation today to work on the class, attend a non state related meeting and take my mom to the doctor later tody.

EDUC 553 Week 2
One of the things I need to do with this blog is to fulfill class requirements. The first thing that I need to do is explore links from the site. My firstfull stop after scanning everything that looked interesting was Solution Watch, Back to School with the Class of Web 2.0. http://perustatecollege.blackboard.com/webapps/portal/frameset.jsp?tab_id=_2_1&url=%2fwebapps%2fblackboard%2fexecute%2flauncher%3ftype%3dCourse%26id%3d_1165_1%26url%3d
Picking the 1st one on the list was probably an error on my part, guessing that it is a preffered site. When I got into it, I found myself exploring a wide variety of recomended sites. I had a little problem with Mindmeister, it let me register, but then did not allow me access.
I was probably acting like a kid in a candy store or one of my grandkids with free money, but I started trying to access and download all of the "free stuff" that I was finding available.
After spending a good 6 hours doing this, I finally (green gods forbid) printed a copy of the site and decided to read it in hard copy to refrain myself from all of this endless downloading. I did elect to have the same access and password for each thing so I do not have an enormous list of passwords to carry around and or lose in my filing system.
From a newbies perspective of Web 2.0, this site was a lot of fun and a learning exercise. If a person wanted to follow all of the entries that are mentioned in the follow up comments on this site, you should probably not be taking a class and working a full time job.
My next step is to go to two of my peers blogs and see what they have been up to.

EDUC 553
I have opened this blog in partial compliance with a course that I am currently taking from Peru State College. Prior to signing up for this class I never had any idea that I would ever do a blog.
